Hanbury Hall Garden

Hanbury Hall and Gardens, near Droitwich

At Hanbury Hall you can explore 40 acres of gardens, including the formal parterre and fruit garden, two orchards and a working 1730s orangery.

The gardens at Hanbury Hall were designed by George London to compliment the house in the early 1700s, the gardens were swept away when fashions changed and were carefully reinstated twenty years ago according to original plans.
The gardens are laid out as follows:

  • The Sunken Parterre, here you will notice that the individual plants are given much space, as they would have been originally.
  • The Orchard with  a mass of apple trees.
  • The Wilderness, a less informal area for contemplating.
  • The Grove, a place for reflection.
  • The formal vegetable garden - a small plot at the front of the house!
  • The Bowling Green for leisure.
  • The Walled Garden for some flower displays plus vegetables.
  • The Orangery.

Because of the nature of the garden you will not find much colour, perhaps in future they could make this a feature of the walled garden without compromising too much on the design.

The working walled garden provides produce eggs and honey to our tea-room and you can chat to the gardening team to find out the secrets to a good harvest and high quality plants.
