Discover the stunning Caisson Gardens near Bath, visually stunning and rich in thriving wildlife, nestling in a beautiful valley 2 miles south of Bath. It is a mix of herbaceous borders, topiaries, ponds and rills, a walled garden, and wildflower meadows.

Welcome to Caisson Gardens near Bath. We have lovingly restored and nurtured the gardens since 2010 - it wasn't a blank canvas, but an extraordinary landscape reflecting the property's unique history.

Our vision and ethos has created a sustainable landscape, with regenerative gardening principles at its core, it is visually stunning and rich in thriving wildlife. We have combined a desire to be closer to nature with our love of art and design, providing the foundations for Caisson's new era.

The house, which is Grade II listed, was built in 1815 as the home for the chief engineer and offices for the Somerset Coal Canal Company. From here they administered a flight of canals and locks that were constructed throughout the Georgian and Victorian period. The canal operated for the duration between 1805 - 1895. 'Caisson' was the name of a revolutionary new kind of lock, sadly it failed in spectacular fashion. It was replaced by conventional locks and canals - the remains of these structures thread throughout the gardens. The original position of the Caisson lock has never been found!
