Glenarn Gardens

Glenarn Gardens, near Helensburgh

This sheltered woodland garden overlooking the Gareloch at Rhu is famous for its collection of rare and tender rhododendrons, together with fine magnolias and other ericaceous trees and shrubs.

A miniature Himalayan glen runs through Glenarn Garden full of large-leaved rhododendrons, ferns and naturalised plants such as narcissus and primulas. The large rock garden is built round the old quarry and natural rock outcrop, providing habitats for smaller plants such as meconopsis, erythroniums, dwarf rhododendrons and many bulbs in season.
Restoration of the dry stone walls continues and there are new paths and planting ongoing in the rock garden. There are beehives near the vegetable patch and a new shade house and potting shed.
