Upton Castle Garden

Discover Upton Castle Gardens, a privately owned, historic garden a short distance from Tenby and Pembroke.
An oasis of calm and tranquillity the picturesque medieval castle remains a family home (not open) providing a spectacular setting for terraces of herbaceous borders, a traditional rose garden, a Georgian walled garden and the more intimate chapel surroundings. The Norman Romanesque chapel built in 1200's is open to the public and contains several interesting features including high status effigies of Norman knights. Contemporary Sculptures can be discovered throughout the gardens and are expanded for The Annual 'Sculpture Trail' July to September.
The arboretum is in a hidden valley south of the castle and merges with less formal plantings of a deeply wooded valley, which sweeps down to Cleddau estuary.
The sheltered, warm maritime climate and deep fertile soil allow plants and trees to thrive. Woodland walks lead through the dappled light of ancient trees to salt marshes. The arboretum features magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons and includes many champion trees.

The 1.3-acre walled garden showcases fruit and vegetables in a long-established kitchen garden setting, providing fresh produce for the café and the castle. A newly planted orchard and adjacent border have been designed to attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The traditional cut-flower bed features roses, sweet peas, dahlias and zinnias, adding vibrant splashes of colour throughout the garden.
