Crathes Castle (NTS), Aberdeenshire - Scotland The 4 acre walled garden at Crathes Castle is one of the finest in Scotland and has been developed over 300 years. It is a wonderful example of the garden with a series of spaces in the Arts and Crafts style. The garden is full of colour in the summer with beautiful borders including a white themed one which is seen as soon as you enter.

Brodswoth Hall, (English Heritage) Yorkshire
If you like formal gardens those at Brodsworth Hall should not disappoint. The gardens have been restored and are a copy of the original1860s design. Beyond the terrace and croquet lawns, bordered by clipped, evergreen shrubberies and marble statues, is the amazing flower garden with its fine display of authentic period bedding plants. Further on there are more informal areas to explore including a stunning Rock Garden.

Felley Priory, Nottingham
The beautiful gardens are on the site of Felley Priory, parts of which were included in the new House dating from the 16th century. It is a peaceful place full of beautiful and well-maintained borders. Features include a former Fish Pond used by monks, topiary, roses and much more.
This is Plantsman's Garden with many rare and unusual plants which can be bought at the adjoining nursery.

Hidcote Manor - Cotswolds (National Trust)
A top ten Great British Garden - Hidcote Manor is one of the greatest gardens in England created last century by the great horticulturist Major Lawrence Johnston. It is situated in the beautiful Cotswold countryside amongst hills, rolling valleys, and drystone walls. The garden was designed in the Arts and Crafts style with a series of small garden rooms, plus long avenues bordered by scented herbaceous borders.

Hinton Ampner (National Trust) - Hampshire
The gardens cover 12 acres including a wonderful Walled Garden with Climbing Roses and a Kitchen Garden. In summer the gardens become a kaleidoscope of colour, with beautiful long herbaceous borders on several terraces. The cut-flower garden is a haven for bees and other insects. Here Peruvian lilies, Echinacea purpurea and exotically coloured dahlias take centre stage.

Sissinghurst Castle (National Trust) – Kent.
The amazing Sissinghurst Castle garden is considered as one of the finest and most beautiful in England. It was created by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson in the 1930s. The garden is divided into a series of rooms filled with informal arrangements of plants around a theme: eg. the White Garden, the Purple Border, the Rose Garden, the Herb Garden, the Lime Walk, and the Cottage Garden. A must visit!

The Garden House, Devon

Set on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon is one of the most delightful gardens in England.
Packed with plants and colours for all seasons, it is well worth visiting most of the year.
This is not a small garden and paths lead you through a range of borders with surprises and colour at every turn. 'The Wild Garden' is in an informal setting of naturalistic plantings. The tower in the walled garden offers magnificent views of the landscape.
