Roses are considered as the nation's favourite flower and the red rose is the national emblem of England, which is featured strongly throughout history. In England, Scotland and Wales during June and July you can discover amazing displays of old-fashioned scented roses, rambling roses and modern roses in borders, along trellises, in thousands of our gardens both large and small.
Bodnant Garden, Conwy, Wales (National Trust)
The gardens are perched above the River Conwy with views across the valley to the Snowdonia National Park. Here you will find one of Britain’s finest and most spectacular gardens with something to see in every season. The gardens have one of the finest displays of roses you will find with a collection of over 1,500 climbers, ramblers and shrub roses, set on the Italianate terraces.

Cerney House Gardens, Cotswolds
This secret Cotswold garden at Cerney House, high above the lovely Churn Valley is a very special and friendly place. There is an amazing sloping historic Walled Garden where you will see masses of old-fashioned roses with companion plantings along the trellises, and in the herbaceous borders. Organic in approach plants tumble happily over each other and fill the air with perfume.

Carolside, Scottish Borders
Carolside is a late 18thC mansion set in beautiful parkland and has one of the most stunning Rose Gardens in Britain. The oval walled garden has been cultivated for over 200 years and was a well-known rose garden in Edwardian days . Today the garden has an important historical collection of roses and houses a National Collection of pre 1900 Gallica roses which will take your breath away.
Mottisfont Abbey – Hampshire (National Trust)
This is one of the most famous Rose Gardens in Britain, which is set in the grounds of an historic Abbey and is a must visit!. Set within a walled garden fabulous scents from old fashioned roses trail walls, pergolas, arches abound everywhere. Other plants intermingle giving a fantastic picture of intense colours. The roses are best from around the second week of June until the first week in July. Can be very busy and is best avoided at weekends if possible.

Peter Beales Roses, Norfolk
If you love roses, then the three acre rose gardens at Peter Beales Garden Centre are the perfect place to visit this summer. Here you can soon lose yourself in the tranquil surroundings, as you meander through the inspirational display garden with its intoxicating perfumes, rose covered archways, walkways and stunning observation turret. There is also a separate wildlife garden.

Lowther Castle – Cumbria
It took one international garden designer (Dan Pearson), 14 gardeners, dozens of volunteers, teams of groundworkers, then 2000+ rose bushes, hundreds of perennial plants, to create the stunning new Rose Garden at Lowther. The result is a spectacle with the garden based on the form of a rose flower with the central fountain acting as the stamens. A wonderful oasis of scent and colour with the dramatic backdrop of Lowther Castle beyond.

RHS Rosemoor, Devon
Boasting the largest collection of roses in the southwest, Rosemoor in North Devon is home to more than 200 different varieties and over 2,000 specimens, ranging from traditional cottage garden climbers to modern varieties, all planted in different settings and combinations in two ‘garden rooms’. The Queen Mother's Rose Garden features modern roses whilst the Shrub Rose Garden is planted with older, more traditional rose varieties.
