Dirleton Castle and Gardens, North Berwick
Dirleton Castle garden existed here from the time the castle was built in the early 1200s. CASTLE OPEN
Dirleton Garden is home to the longest herbaceous border in the world and is a captivating blend of traditional gardens and more modern plantings.
The sunken bowling green probably started life as a parterre surrounded by yew hedges. Beyond the lawns, planted with specimen trees, there is an elegant beehive styled dovecote.
Historic Scotland has also recreated the Victorian Garden devised by the Castle's owners in the 1860s.
