Mottistone Manor Garden, Isle of Wight

This magical National Trust garden at Mottistone Manor on the Isle of Wight is set in a small sheltered valley with distant views to the coast. 
It is planted to allow for climate change with colourful borders, shrub-filled banks and grassy terraces with seating areas. It is set in a sheltered valley with views to the sea and surrounds an Elizabethan manor house (tenanted). 
The garden was surprisingly created by Lady Vivien Nicholson in the 1960s. She was inspired by her Sicilian background to introduce terracing, steps within the garden leading to different areas, while the orchard was refreshed with an avenue of flowering and fruiting trees.
There is also a beautifully planted tropical garden leading down to a round garden with more colourful borders.
Look for the The Shack, a unique cabin retreat used by previous owners as a garden office and remains as it would have looked like in the 1950's.
