Longstock Water Gardens
As summer progresses at Longstock Water Gardens further plants come to life giving vibrant colour to the garden.
Longstock Park Water Garden, judged the finest water garden in the world by the International Water Lily Society, is open by kind permission of the John Lewis Partnership for the benefit of 12 charities every year.
It was built by John Spedan Lewis who was a keen naturalist from a lake formed from gravel which was extracted in earlier years.
People flock from miles around to see the beautiful secluded crystal clear lakes which attract an abundance of wildlife in all its forms.
In May, the many varieties of rhododendron and azalea will be spreading vibrant drifts of colour throughout the woodland area and the irises will be blooming around the lakes. There are many wildflowers to attract insects. There is also a National Collection of budlias which attract a host of butterflys.
The gardens attract water birds such as herons, moorhens and kingfishers.
There are many other beautiful gardens in the area so why not take a short break, and stay at Stockbridge in one of our recommended hotels.
