Petwood Hotel Garden

Petwood Hotel Garden, Woodhall Spa

This beautiful garden was designed by Lady Grace Weigall and created by Harold Peto

Planned and executed according to Lady Grace Weigall's lavish tastes by famous landscape designer Harold Peto, the gardens at the Petwood are open to the public all year. Each season has its beauty, but they are especially impressive in spring and summer when the colours are at their most intense.

A leisurely stroll to absorb the ambiance of the quiet lawns, vibrant flowers and elegant features is a must in all but the most inhospitable of English weather. During the warmer months we also host various outdoor events, including outdoor theatre and the famous Woodhall Spa 1940s festival.

The hotel has a wide history and was once the Officers Mess of three different RAF squadrons; 97 Squadron, 619 Squadron and 617 Squadron. Most famous of these was 617 Squadron, the 'Dambusters'.

Visitors can explore the rich aviation history of the hotel and gardens by visiting the 'Squadron Bar' which contains memorabilia commemorating the various RAF squadrons and even see a prototype 'bouncing bomb' from the Dams raid practices in the memorial garden. The wider history of the hotel is also commemorated through photographs throughout the hotel from its time as an Edwardian Country House and the home of Lady Grace and Sir Archibald Weigall and a convalescent hospital for injured soldiers in WWI.
