The Dower House Gardens occupy a l.5 acre site in a beautiful setting within the grounds of Morville Hall, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.
The Dower House Garden aims to tell the history of English gardening through a sequence of separate gardens designed in the style of different historical periods, including a Turf Maze, medieval Cloister Garden, Elizabethan Knot Garden, 18th-century Canal Garden, Victorian Rose Garden, Wild Garden and Formal Fruit and Vegetable Garden.
Particular attention is given to the use of authentic plants and construction techniques. Old roses are a speciality of the garden. The Dower House garden was designed by the writer and broadcaster Dr Katherine Swift, who has lived and gardened at the Dower House since 1988, and is the setting for her best selling book The Morville Hours and its sequel The Morville Year. She is currently working on a third book, A Rose for Morville.
