The gardens at Abbotsbury are situated in a valley near the Chesil Beach in Dorset and date from 1762. The sheltered position has enabled sub tropical plants to grow among our native species. Formal areas lead to the Valley Garden, a gentle coombe with camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons in woodland. Asiatic primroses border the banks of the stream in Spring with bridges and crossing paths.
Even in summer the woodland has colour with many colourful plants including hydrangeas.
There are many fine specimen trees which you would not see growing in this country. These are gardens which you should not miss and one of our favourites.

Each year in October the plants and trees are illuminated in a dazzling display of colours.

Take time to visit the nearby Chesil Beach with its display of wild coastal plants especially good in June/July. Aberdour Castle has a garden which is very unusual. This is not a garden for the enthusiastic plant lover but for the Garden historian it will be fascinating.
The gardens were added in the 16th century and comprise of massive terraces ( restored over recent years ) which once were planted with borders and pools. There were plans for a restoration of the original design but these are currently on hold. The terraces overlooked an orchard from the late 1600s which has now been replanted.
There is a pretty walled garden at the other end of the Castle.

Stunning Aberglasney is one of Wales' finest gardens, and at its heart lies a fully restored Elizabethan Cloister Garden that is the only surviving example of its kind in the UK today. Beyond this, visitors can explore 10 acres of over 20 different garden styles from formal to woodland, right through to exotic and modern.

What to See

• Two beautiful walled gardens: the lower is a Kitchen Garden and the upper is a formal cruciform-layout garden designed by Penelope Hobhouse.
• The Ninfarium: an award-winning indoor garden found within the ruined interior walls of the mansion. It's home to a large collection of tropical and exotic plants including examples from Aberglasney's collection of rare and unusual orchids.
• The Stream Garden and Pigeon House Woods: they become a mass of colours in spring and summer and are especially glorious when the bluebells arrive in April.
• The Asiatic Garden: where visitors can find a collection of plants that originate from various parts of Asia and provide beautiful blossoms in spring and glorious autumn colour.
• The Sunken Garden: a water feature designed by William Pye lies at its centre. This garden bursts into life from spring to late-summer thanks to its collection of vibrant perennials.
• Floral Arbors: Rose, Malus & Wisteria.
• Grade II listed mansion: the ground floor is open to the public and is a venue for exhibitions and events.
• Wonderful traditional tearooms that serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, homemade lunches, afternoon tea, and homemade cakes.

Achamore Gardens are set on the beautiful Scottish Island of Gigha with its white sandy beaches and breathtaking scenery..
Sir James Horlick acquired the estate in 1944 he wished to establish a garden to grow his more tender Rhododendrons.
He managed this by cutting small clearings in the Ponticum and trees and by 1970 the garden was full and looked magnificent. On his death he left some of his collection to the National Trust for Scotland so that rare species could be propagated and shared with other great gardens.
Island web site gives Virtual Tour of Achamore Gardens.
Bed and Breakfast is available in Achamore House set in the centre of the gardens.
","ffcc1c50-8dbd-4115-b463-b43bdcd44a57":
"c1cc1b41-237c-4705-8a08-77c3db5eb59f":
"a09fb8f9-46f8-4cf5-8746-f1140d705424":
"91617eb5-d23e-4c0c-82d5-a46d85e8c5b4":
"ec193a5d-7ee6-4cf3-a90b-df14970ede16":"/achamore","4339a108-f907-4661-9aab-d6f3f00e736e":"Achamore Gardens","ea0666d7-51e3-4e52-8617-25e3ad61f8b8":"PA41 7AD","90a18889-884b-4d53-a302-4e6e4595efa0":"Campbeltown","6a20c005-7bd3-4014-919a-6edfd2239284":"Argyll and Bute","81c5f642-2f7f-491f-b1c2-ce32ec688125":["GB"],"3f15b5e4-0dea-4114-a870-1106b85248de":"office@gigha.org.uk","0b3d983e-b2fa-4728-afa0-a0b640fa34dc":"https://www.visitgigha.co.uk/Achamore-Gardens","160bd40a-3e0e-48de-b6cd-56cdcc9db892":"High Row, Isle of Gigha PA41 7AD, UK
["0","94","92","100","44
