Cragside House Gardens

Cragside House Gardens, near Morpeth

Cragside is a great Victorian Garden with one of the largest rock gardens in Europe. House is also open

Below the Arts and Crafts House Cragside, and across the valley lie the 3 terraces of formal gardens. There are stone framed carpet beds which are planted for the summer and just below a dahlia walk.
The rock garden here is one of the largest in Europe.
There is a fine collection of conifers in the pinetum and a good collection of rhododendrons.
The walk through the gorge is an enlightening experience and the gardens continue to be restored.
Cragside was the home of Lord Armstrong and the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. There are many ingenious gadgets – most of them still working.
Plenty of wildlife, including red squirrels, can be seen on the many walks through woodland and by the lake on the estate.
This is a great day out for all the family and you can take your dog too.
