Picton Casle was built in the 13th century and is surrounded by extensive woodland gardens. They are home to a feast of wild flowers, beeches and many other mature trees intermingled with a fine well labelled collection of beautiful woodland shrubs and unusual conifers. These include magnolias, camelia, myrtle and a unique collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. There is a recently planted maze.
