| The
gardens and parkland surround a listed William-and-Mary Country
house. The foundation to the original garden wall acts as a ha-ha planted with scented shrubs such as lavender and Trachelospermum. The Victorian walled kitchen garden is planted with a central herbaceous border and box edged bed containing species of old fashioned rosesherb beds, and fruit trees. The rose garden is lined with lavender, and a yew hedge surrounds it. The white garden has white plants such as Wisteria floribunda with Agapanthus campanulatus albus, but also two blue Ceanothus clipped to the wall. The park railings finish the manicured area and brings us to the park and arboretum with many specimen trees. Middlethorpe is a plantsman’s garden full of unusual and interesting treasures scattered throughout a maze of small gardens. |
