away a few miles from Taunton are 50
acres of parkland boasting beautiful formal gardens and 3 centuries of
garden history . If you have not visited Hestercombe Gardens then put it
in your diary. The formal Edwardian Gardens, at the back of the house feature terraces, pool and and Orangery which were designed by Sir Edward Lutyens and planted by Gertrude Jekyll. Colourful borders surround the main terrace with views over the Somerset countryside . These gardens were reunited in 1997 with Hestercombe's secret landscape garden for the first time in 125 years after extensive restoration. The idyllic 40 acre Georgian pleasure grounds have been lovingly and meticulously restored and provide delightful woodland walks, lakeside views, classical temples and the Great Cascade. Best time to visit Summer. |
