The Dower House

The Dower House Gardens occupy a l.5 acre site in a beautiful setting within the grounds of Morville Hall, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.  The garden aims to tell the history of English gardening in a sequence of separate gardens designed in the style of different historical periods, including a Turf Maze, medieval Cloister Garden, Elizabethan Knot Garden, 18th-century Canal Garden, Victorian Rose Garden, Wild Garden and Formal Fruit and Vegetable Garden.  Particular attention is given to the use of authentic plants and construction techniques.  Old roses are a speciality of the garden.  The Dower House  garden was designed by the writer and broadcaster Dr Katherine Swift, who has lived and gardened at the Dower House since 1988.
