Chirk Castle, Nr Wrexham

These gardens at Chirk Castle were created from William Emes' designs from the 18th century.
There are formal gardens, with roses (modern and old fashioned), a woodland garden with rhododendrons, azaleas. The  herbaceous borders are protected from the wind and provide a good display in the summer. The fine rockery has many alpine plants.
Climbers cover the walls and give good colour as do other plantings.
The garden is well known for its yew topiary which can be seen opposite. There is also a Lime Avenue.
Good views of surrounding counties from the grounds of castle which is also open and well worth a visit.
