Charles
Hawes has been taking photographs of gardens professionally since 1999.
He is a member of the Gardens Writers Guild and is the only photographer
member of the Guild who also has a garden which is open regularly to the
public.
Veddw
House
Garden
has a national reputation and is included in most
Garden Guides published in the
UK
and is listed on the
Great
British
Gardens
web site. It will be opening this summer on June 26th
within the
Modern
Gardens
event to celebrate innovation in British garden
design.
Charles main interest is in photographing gardens for features in
magazines and newspapers. His work has appeared in most gardening
magazines and he is a regular contributor to The English Garden
magazine. He has also contributed pictures to several books. He has 20
pictures including the front cover and several of
Veddw
House
Garden
, in the book “Garten - Perspektiven’ by
Somerset
based Heidi Howcroft published in February 2004 and will be
making a major contribution to her next book. Charles won second prize
in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Photographic competition in 2002
in the category Garden Photographer of the Year for a photograph of the
innovative ”Reflecting Pool” at Veddw House Garden. This striking
feature will also be appearing in Diamuid Gavins next book “Design
Your Garden” to be published later in 2004. The photographic

World Images represents Charles’ stock pictures of
plants and flowers and garden features.
Charles is an
inspector for the Good Gardens Guide and is married to garden writer
Anne Wareham who writes the articles about most of the gardens that he
has photographed. Anne is currently working on a book with Noel
Kingsbury about garden criticism and it is intended that Charles will be
contributing pictures to this book.
