Abbotsford
is a truly splendid House set in grounds which border down to the River
Tweed famous for its trout fishing.
It was once the home of Sir Walter
Scott one of the greatest literary figures the world has ever known. His
books include Ivanhoe and Lady of the Lake.
The large grounds border down to the River Tweed where you can sit and
admire not only the river but the views of the House.
The Gardens stand to the side of the House and are best in summer with
colourful borders. There is also a fine walled garden with fine
borders leading up to a Summer House with views back over the castle into the
distance.
If you have time take a walk in the adjoining woodland.
Take time to see the house and Walter Scott's magnificent library and
study.
Abbotsford open 2011
from 14 March - see website for full details.
